Reports are stating that as much as 40cm of snow has fallen in the Sierra Nevada mountains, meaning the ski season can really get underway in the area.
Cold weather has meant that snow machines can be put into operation, but in many places there is little need for them. The higher altitude Boreal resort has over a foot of snow, while Alpine Meadows near Lake Tahoe has 20cm or so of fresh powder.
Squaw Valley and Northstar-at-Tahoe are now officially open as well. While not all slopes are yet open, it’s looking promising for the ski season ahead.
