Hotel prices in Mexico and parts of the Caribbean should drop in future years as a recent study has shown that 141 hotels are being constructed at present, meaning an additional 18,000 rooms.
Mexico is constructing the greatest number of new hotels, which reflects its increasing popularity as a tourist destination. There are currently over 5,000 rooms being built. Surprisingly, Puerto Rico was next on the list with over a thousand rooms being constructed. The Bahamas too topped a thousand.
As for the type of hotels being built, around a quarter were branded ‘upper upscale’ hotels, while a fifth were considered ‘midscale without food and drink’.
