EasyJet flights to benefit from shorter check-in times

Posted by Drew Wilkie On September - 1 - 2009

EasyJet are looking to start using hand held tools to hasten check-in for their customers. Rather than having to check in at a desk, as is the convention, EasyJet passengers will be able to have their ticket scanned and boarding pass printed by a handheld device.

Plans to test out the system have been announced and the airline is hoping to bring it in as soon as next month.

This move follows hot on the heels of Ryanair’s announcement that they are intending to do away with check-in desks altogether. EasyJet say they have no such plans, nor would they be charging for check-in, as many airlines do.

The move is aimed at cutting costs. Currently airlines have to rent out check-in desks from airports, so by making use of a handheld device, EasyJet can minimise the number of desks that they need and save money.
